    Obituary of David H. Gordon
The Law Times, the Journal and Record of the Law and Lawyers, Vol 64
    April 6, 1878

    D.H. Gordon Esq.

The late David Hutchison Gordon, Esq., writer to the signet, who died at Kirkcudbright, on the 16th inst, in the sixty-fifth year of his age, was the fourth son of the late Robert Gordon, Esq., of Larglanglee, in the county of Kirkcudbright, by Catherine Hutchison, his wife.

He was born at Kirkcudbright in the year 1813, and was educated at a school in his native town, whence he proceded to Edinburgh, where he graduated in due course. He was admitted a solicitor in 1837, and practiced as such for many years in the town of Kirkcudbright. He was appointed in 1845 Procurator Fiscal for the Stewarty of Kirkcudbright, and Clerk and Treasurer to the Road Trustees of the county. He had been for some time Dean of the body of solicitors.

At the Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court, Mr. Sheriff Nicholsom, in noticing the death of Mr. Gordon, made the following remarks: "I think it becoming for us, and my special duty, before commencing our ordinary business, to make allusion to the great loss we here in particular have sutained in the removal of one well known and esteemed throughoout the whole stewartry. He especially deserves remembrance here, as the man whom you chose as most worthy to be your Dean, and a man every way fitted to adorn that position. The man who represents a body of lawyers as their president ought to be of thorough legal training and knowledge, of nice and delicate honour, such as to give an example to others, and prove to the world that the practice of law, rightly understood, is not a system of clever expedients and cunning phrases, but of good common sense and fair play. He should be also be a man of genial nature, a gentleman, a man of taste. Such a man was David Gordon."

The remains were interred at Kirkcudbright.
